WELCOMBE CHURCH FETE & FUN DOG SHOW

Thank you to everyone who supported the recent Church Fete.   Financially it was the best yet raising £3,800.
So many people gave generously by making cakes and other items to sell, advertising their businesses in the Fete programme, donating bottles, toys, books, raffle prizes and many other items for the various stalls, growing plants and fruit and vegetables and by entering the classes in the Dog Show.
There was a small hiccup with the marquee arriving a day late but the number of helpers who came forward on the Wednesday afternoon before the Fete was phenomenal.   Many of these helpers stayed on after the Fete to clear up and pack the tables, chairs and equipment back into the shed.
Thank you to the youngsters who provided the musical entertainment; Sarah and Rachel Pankhurst with their violins and Michael Bence with his electric guitar.   Hartland ATC provided a fun children’s obstacle course, Revd. Jane Hayes was kept busy ‘face painting’ and the children enjoyed their own lucky dip stall.   The Dog Show drew an even bigger crowd this year and was fun to watch.   The judge had a really difficult task in all the classes especially the last one ‘the dog the judge would most like to take home’.   Congratulation to Jess owned by the Rosser family who was the winner of this class.
The ladies in the Church worked tirelessly all afternoon serving delicious teas and cakes and we hope visitors had time to browse through the book stall which was positioned in the church this year.
It was lovely to see some of the past Welcombe residents and members of Jean Goodchild’s family (who had gathered for a family wedding in the church the day before) return for the Fete.   We are so fortunate to live in such a fantastic community and thank you all for your support and generosity to keep our village church thriving.   We hope everyone enjoyed their afternoon too.
(The dog show Judge was Mark Banks from Penbode vets who kindly came over for the afternoon and also brought some generous goody bags for entries in the final event)
